Seit einiger Zeit habe ich Gefallen gefunden am C-Walk und ähnlich gearteten Dingen.. Okay, um ehrlich zu sein weniger am Selber-Ausüben als viel mehr daran, Menschen dabei zuzusehen, die ihren Körper soweit unter Kontrolle haben, dass das Ganze auch lässig ausschaut. Irgendwann stieß ich dann in den unendlichen Weiten von Youtube auf eine Gruppe junger Leute aus dem tschechischen Nachbarland, die der eingangs erwähnten Tätigkeit nachgingen. Einige Videos später war ich zu dem Entschluss gekommen, mich zeichnerisch an diesem Thema zu versuchen. Eines der Mädels, Shadzzy Sylwer der Rhythm’s Pulse Gruppe, war mir schon recht frühzeitig aufgefallen… weshalb ich sie auch kurzerhand als “Opfer” auserkoren hatte. Ein Video aus ihrem Channel diente dann auch als Vorlage für die Pose. Die schiere Menge an schnellen Moves machte die Auswahl eines geeigneten Frames natürlich nicht gerade einfacher. Außerdem wirkten viele Moves, vor allem die Hopser zur Seite, reduziert auf ein Standbild oftmals unbalanciert, wie ein Stolpern. Letztendlich fiel meine Wahl dann auf einen nicht zu “überdrehten” Frame. Das Endergebnis ist hier zu sehen.
The c-walk is nothing new.. that is, unless you’re kind of living on the dark side of the moon like myself. And so it wasn’t until a little while ago that I stumbled upon a few videos on the internet that showed people doing exactly that: c-walking. Pretty interesting I thought and have grown to like this kind of thing ever since.. well okay, not exactly doing this myself but watching people with the skills to make it look cool performing it. Watching video after video I soon ran into a group of young people from our Czech neighbor country and yet another few of their vids later I couldn’t get the idea out of my head to draw something c-walk-related. One of the girls, Shadzzy Sylwer of Rhythm’s Pulse group, had caught my attention early on… which is why I decided to make her the “victim” of my drawing attempts. One of the videos from her channel was used as reference for the pose. Picking a good frame from the video wasn’t exactly easy, due to the many many moves being performed in quick succession. Another problem was that it all looked pretty rad in motion, no question. But when reduced to a single moment in time especially the hopping to the sides would often look out of balance, i.e. like stumbling. Eventually I picked one shot that I thought wasn’t “too over the top” and looked good on its own. The resulting drawing can be seen here.
Wie schon desöfteren gibts hier noch einen Schnappschuss des Originals, inklusive der verwendeten Stifte. Interessante (aber leider zu spät eingetretene) Erkenntnis: eine Perspektive wie in dem unteren Foto hätte der Dynamik im Bild einen gehörigen Schub verpassen können. Naja, vielleicht beim nächsten Bild dann :D
And, not for the first time, here’s a snapshot of the original, including the pencils I used for it. An interesting (but unfortunately too late) thing that occured to me while looking at the bottom photo is that using a perspective like that in the actual drawing would have made it a lot more dynamic. Well, maybe in the next pic :D
