Cutout Character

Das hier war eigentlich als eine Art posierbare Papier-Anziehpuppe für die Inkscape AG gedacht. Nach einer kleinen Diskussion auf Facebook zum Thema Animation dachte ich mir aber, dass das auch als Grundlage dafür funktionieren könnte. Die Einzelteile (in diesem Beispiel sehr simpel, da die Kids Gesicht, Kleidung usw. selber zeichnen und  darüberlegen sollen) werden nicht direkt sondern via Klon in Position gebracht. Erfordert natürlich zunächst erst einmal etwas mehr Aufwand beim Einrichten der Klone usw., ist aber im weiteren Verlauf komfortabler, da jedes Teil eine Einheit darstellt und nicht eine Gruppe von Einzelobjekten. Eine kurze Erläuterung gibt es im svg (liegt auf Deviantart und ist mit dem Bild verlinkt).

This was meant for my Inkscape workshop at school. After a short discussion on Facebook about animating stuff in Inkscape, I thought that it could be used as a basis for this purpose as well. The separate parts (very simple in this example since the kids shall add details, face, clothes etc on top of the base) aren’t being positioned directly but via clones. Obviously, this requires a bit more work on setting up the clones and everything but further down the road it’ll make things easier since every body part is just one unit, not a group of separate objects. There’s a short explanation in the svg (stored on Deviantart and linked to the image).

Inkscape Halftone via Tiled Clones

Auf Facebook kam die Frage auf, wie man in Inkscape einen Halftone-Effekt erzeugen könnte. Basierend auf diesem Video von Marco Riva hab ich mal was zusammen gestöpselt. Auf den ersten Blick mag das ganze verwirrend erscheinen. Deshalb einfach schauen, welcher Klon wohin verlinkt ist und das ganze sollte klar werden… hoffentlich :D Ach ja, noch eine Sache: die Datei enthält mehrere Tausend Klone. Die Performance dürfte also mit ziemlicher Sicherheit etwas zu wünschen übrig lassen. Klick aufs Bild für die SVGZ-Datei.

Somebody on Facebook asked if there’s a way to achieve a halftone effect in Inkscape. Based on this video by Marco Riva I put a little example together. On first sight it might appear confusing but just check which clone links where and it should be clear… hopefully :D Oh, and another thing: this file contains several thousand clones so performance will supposedly be less than great. Color blending in Inkscape

Unter den Kommentaren zu meinem letzten Bild auf Facebook fand sich unter anderem die Frage nach dem Mischen von Farben in Inkscape. Hier hab ich mal drei mehr oder weniger naheliegende Ideen zusammengefasst die ich selbst auch nutze. Diese können ähnliche Resultate hervorbringen, unterscheiden sich aber in Flexibilität und Arbeitsaufwand. Das Dokument ist insgesamt sehr simpel gehalten, soll aber auch nur als kleiner Start-Schubs dienen. Einfach selber rumprobieren und sehen, was alles geht. Das macht sowieso mehr Spaß als nur nach Anleitung vorzugehen! :) Die svg-Datei hab ich wieder auf DeviantArt gelagert. Link siehe unten.

Among the comments on my last finished pic on Facebook the question popped up, how color blending could be achieved in Inkscape. I put together a couple of more or less obvious approaches that I personally use more or less often. They can produce similar results but vary in flexibility and the amount of work necessary to reach the goal. The document is very basic and shall only help push people in the right direction. Simply experiment on your own and see what can be done. It’s much more fun than doing stuff by the manual! :) The svg file is stored on DeviantArt. Link at the bottom.

Fake Depth of Field in Inkscape

Ein simpler Ansatz um einem Bild einen Tiefenunschärfe-Effekt hinzu zu fügen. Ist nicht wahnsinnig aufregend aber vielleicht hilft es ja jemandem. Das ganze ließe sich natürlich noch ausbauen; für dieses Beispiel wollte ich es aber beim absoluten Minimum belassen. Erklärungen im svg (Klick aufs Bild).

This is a simple approach to adding a depth of field effect to an image. There isn’t too much to it but maybe somebody will find this helpful. Of course this setup could be improved/extended but for this example I wanted to stick to the bare minimum. Some explanations inside the svg (click the image).

Dynamic masks in Inkscape [updated]

Hier noch ein weiteres Beispiel. Ein die komplette Seite bedeckendes Rechteck mit Muster, dessen Sichtbarkeit wie im ersten Beispiel oben über eine zusammengesetzte Maske bestimmt wird.

Here’s another example. It contains one pattern-filled rectangle, covering the entire page, with its visibility set through a mask made up of several gradiented paths.
